Create invoice without a project
Hello,
I'm not a current user of FreeAgent, but am looking to see if it would be suitable for upgrading to.
Had a play around your demo version, but it seems you can't create an Invoice without first creating a project?
I am a web designer and bill out recurring web hosting invoices on a monthly and yearly basis. Web hosting doesn't really warrant a 'project' since it's so trivial to set this up anyway.
Have I got this wrong, or is this a limitation? Maybe there is a way around this?

Inappropriate?Hi Matthew
At the present time you do have to create a project to be able to generate an invoice. It's pretty quick and easy to add a new project for a client though, so it shouldn't be too troublesome. And we do generate and send recurring invoices for you too, so once you've created the project and the invoice you shouldn't have to do anything else!
We have been discussing the option of generating invoices without requiring a project though, so it may be that we add support for this in the future.
Would this be a deal-breaker for you signing up for FreeAgent?
Cheers, Olly

I think adding the ability to generate invoice by chooing "no project" would be extremely useful. There are always occasions when you need a one -off invoice and dont want to riase a project pointlessly -
Inappropriate?Invoicing without assigning it to a project would be great. I sublet my office to another designer and I have to invoice him monthly, but it seems strange making it a project.

Inappropriate?Hi Petey
When you have a single client for a single job, you're right that requiring a project seems like an unnecessary step, but projects are actually integral to a lot of the FreeAgent internals so it's not a straightforward change on our side unfortunately. That said we are still chatting about how best we might support this, so we're not discounting the idea at all!
In the meantime, you should add the designer as a client and create a single project called, say, 'Office Sublet'. This is something you only have to do once, and you can then create a single monthly recurring invoice which will emailed to the client every month. Once you've done that, there's no more input required from you -- it's all handled automatically by FreeAgent! :-)
The main advantage of going through the extra step of creating a project is that your invoices are all neatly categorised, so should you need to bill the same client for a different job in the future, you just create a new project.
