Employees can access everything?
I dont quite understand why employees are able to view practically all the same information as directors and shareholders...All i want my employees to be able to do is access time tracking. Am i missing something?

Inappropriate?Hi there
Right now we don't support this level of access control, although it is definitely on our radar. A few people are asking for more control in this area, but as you might imagine everyone has different requirements, so we'll need to make it somewhat customisable whilst retaining as much simplicity as possible. -
Inappropriate? If you only want them to input times for projects, what about giving them access only to a program such as Timepost2.com, this is integrated into FAC. You would have to set up the integration but the FAC password is bulleted so the employee wouldn't be able to access freeagent.
This then gives them the ability to add times and tasks to a project and upload them into FAC without having to go online to do it and thus not being able to see what you don't want them to see. -
Inappropriate?I tried Timepost2.com, it's not really what's needed and not good value for money, web-based multi-employee time logging would be the minimum.

Individual employees can add their timeslips in FreeAgent. Or is the issue more to do with the overall permissions which employees are given in FreeAgent right now? -
Inappropriate?Hi Olly
Well, the only way I could create a login for an employee was
1) set employee's email to mine as i suspected perms might be an issue
2) go to 'forgot passwd' screen
3) login as 'employee' with newly created user/pass
Yes indeed the current state of permissions for employees is a problem in freeagentcentral. Don't you think? I can't think of a single company where the director would be happy for any employee to see the entire financials of the business.
Having said this I've been reviewing financial software for some time and yours is by far the best I've found. Which is why I was surprised by the perms oversight, given the attention to detail on everything else.
I'm curious what is the implementation language of the platform? -
Inappropriate?I just noticed there *is* a password create option, which I thought I remembered, but *only* on user creation, not user edit. This is confusing.

Inappropriate?Demian,
Thanks for connecting with us here.
I just wanted to say that out intention in designing FreeAgent was to build the simplest, most streamlined way for freelancers to manage the financial side of their businesses. Much more than just the invoicing side of things, the whole shebang.
Of course, 'accidentally' we've also built something that other businesses can use.
And of course we'd be kind of silly not to listen to the what you guys are telling us, but suggestions for access restrictions, like those for stock control and a multitude of other small business must-haves, need to be carefully thought about here lest we dilute our core simplicity.
So yes, I do know of lots of businesses where DIrectors are happy to let employees see the finances, 'cos there ain't no employees.
All that said, we're planning to introduce some very simple limitations on Employee and forthcoming Subcontractor logins so that they can only see TIme Tracking and Out-of-pocket Expenses tabs.
We do have a few more immediate things to do, but rest assured this is very much on our radar.

I only just saw this response, spam filter must have munched the alert. Ed and team, FA is fantastic software, am really enjoying using it, as a software dev myself I can really tip my hat to this product. -
Inappropriate?I'm a sole trader at the minute, but that may change in the (near or maybe far) future. At present, I work with another sole trader who gets a lot of sales for me, and does project management with the client. We have a Blinksale account, and him and I can both add invoices, add payment dates etc. Which takes that away from my workload.
However, with the current permissions in FAC, if I gave him "employee" access, then he'd be able to see all of my financials, which isn't something I'd be comfortable with (cos he'd see how often I buy diamond shoes and bars of gold!! ;o) ). For me, the permissions could be simplified on a user-to-user basis, using the top nav of FAC as the basis.
So, for example, an employee/associate/whatever would have access to:
Home, Contacts, Projects, Time, Invoices, Expenses
Leaving the more sensitive aspects of the app to those with more access rights.
As a web designer/developer myself, I know that this is no small change, but it's certainly something that would not only benefit a lot of existing users, but could be a real selling point for new customers too, in turn making FAC suitable for more than just small businesses & freelancers.

Inappropriate?Hi Phil,
Thanks very much for your feedback, it's really appreciated. We're aware that this sort of access is becoming increasingly important for our customers and we'll do our best to provide a suitable solution as soon as we can.

Inappropriate?Just wondering if the FAC team are any closer to implementing this. I notice that Xero.com offer this sort of functionality (http://help.xero.com/UserGuide.aspx?h...) and it'd be great if FAC had it too. It's not a deal breaker for me at the minute, but I'd guess if people were comparing the two products, the lack of permissions and better access rights might count against you.

Inappropriate?the subcontractor login sounds good when its ready - roll on that glorious day!
Employees can see everrything and thats not good. Its not too complicated as I bet allowing an employee access to only their own timesheets and only teir own expense account would solve 90%+ of the limitation of freeagent.
Adding more elborate things liek approval of expenses by a senior person etc would be something for later.

Inappropriate?Agreed -
as a small business owner, the very last thing i want to be doing is processing employees expenses.
it would be great if they could just put in their billable hours and expenses.
That's all they need to be able to do - i really don't want them seeing how much their colleagues take home every month!
