Extending the ICal feeds
Hi,
I've noticed you have ICal feeds now for invoices and upcoming tax dates (which incidently, I can't import into either Outlook 2003 or Google Calendars. Bug perhaps?). Just wondering if this can be extended to include all important company dates, such as P35s, company's house filing etc? Might be slightly out of scope for you guys, but it would provide a central 'portal' that can be used to track all activities within a small business.
Another place this could be incorporated is in the home page. Perhaps call it a 'submissions timeline' or somesuch.
Another idea is opening up a custom ICal feed where important dates can be added to a calendar, so that we can put in reminders of events (eg. Direct debiting of VAT is taking place on x)
What do you think?

Wadjet,
Excellent idea, we were planning on including the Companies' House dates ourselves but a more general approach would be even better.
We would change the name of the calendar to just 'company timeline', probably. Watch this space...
As for the existing timeline: Outlook2003 doesn't support iCal feeds (although apparently you can use an open-source .NET add-in called RemoteCalendars to make this work).
Google calendars should work fine, though - we use it internally for all our freelance work and for our FreeAgent accounts.

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? Thanks Ed, thats good to know!
Tried to add the feeds to my google calendar just now and it works a dream. Not sure what I was doing wrong before...
I’m much happier.

Inappropriate? On the subject of calendars, it would be really nice to be able to see a calendar view of time spent on particular projects etc These guys: http://www.pipelineworks.com/tour.jsp while they don't seem to be anywhere as nearly good as you on some things seem to have a nice take on this...

Inappropriate?djwhisky,
A fine idea. I take it you're not expecting 2-way sync at this stage ;->
Would you want to see 1 feed per project, 1 per user or a single feed that covers all the time logged in FreeAgent?
From the other end, would you rather track your time in Google Calendar and have us 'shadow' the time in FreeAgent in a way that would allow invoice creation from those events?
-
Inappropriate?That's a good question - hadn't even thought that far ahead :)
I think for me, definitely the per user feed would be very useful as it would allow me to quickly see what I've been working on each day (and try to account for those missing hours when I get distracted!!)
Obviously long term a two-way sync would be great too... with being able to add data directly on a day in Google Calendar would be great! Presumably, it would be something that could be written with a Google Calendar Gadget (http://code.google.com/apis/calendar/...) ? Having only just Googled for these myself I'm not sure of the limitations of this etc...
-
Inappropriate?djwhisky - ooh those calendar gadgets look cool! A mini 'add a timeslip' gadget perhaps?
One thing we don't do is have start and end times for our timeslips, only durations. We'll have a think over here about the implications of that.
-
Inappropriate?Could you clarify whether the 'feeds' are standalone ical files or 'subscriptions' that update with your info online?

Inappropriate?awsl
Our iCal feeds are live data feeds, so when the relevant information changes in FreeAgent (e.g. if an invoice is paid) then this change will be reflected in the iCal data.
