How do I stop my invoices from overwriting the letterhead?
I'm trying to generate my first FAC invoice using the "simple" template or "bauhaus" template with the letterhead option selected.
Problem is that the invoice prints near the top of the page, overwriting the letterhead. With an invoice in Excel I can just print with a large margin, but I can't do this with PDF files. I haven't got a complicated letterhead. I just need a 3 inch gap to be left at the top of the page.
Am I missing something?

Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
To print on letterhead paper you have to edit an invoice and select the Use Letterhead Paper option from the Advanced Options at the bottom of the screen.
This will remove your company logo and address and should give you enough room for your letterhead design when you print from pdf.
Does that help?
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I've selected the "Use Letterhead Paper" option. The company address and logo are removed, but there is almost no space at the top of the page - just a fairly standard margin without enough space to for the letterhead to fit in - and it's a fairly modest letterhead - nothing fancy.
If I create an invoice with an address and logo, the address and logo take up quite a bit of space. If I then then select the "Use Letterhead Paper" option, I might expect the space previously used for the address and log to be left blank and reserved for the letterhead. Instead the invoice migrates towards the top of the page.
Out of interest: if I select the "Use Letterhead Paper" how much space should be left at the top of the page?
I’m puzzled

Inappropriate?Have you tried printing it out and seeing how it looks then?
The letterhead space you see on screen gets increased by the default page margins when printing so it's quite a lot bigger, and should be enough for most letterheads.
We've also measured this height so the client address appears in the correct place for envelope windows.
Let me know how you get on. -
Inappropriate?Yes - when it's printed the top of the invoice is only about 4cm from the very top of the paper. My letterhead means that it needs to start printing at least 6cm from the top. This isn't very far. It's a bog standard letterhead - nothing unusual.
Can you confirm that to print the invoice, you export it to a pdf and then print it? Is there any way of altering the margins?
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
Yes, you generate the pdf and then print. It sounds like in your case the top margin isn't big enough.
The solution here is to create a custom invoice template which increases the top margin by a couple of centimetres.
Can you email me at roan [at] freeagentcentral.com with your company name and we'll get it sorted for you?

Inappropriate?Thank you Roan - you're an absolute star!
It might be worthwhile allowing people to do this by default and publicising this more widely, with instructions. I'm sure other people would want to tweak the layout - I don't think you'd have to be a developer to make little changes like this.
Thanks again. Peter.
I’m happy!

Inappropriate?Hi Peter,
We're planning to do exactly that in the next couple of weeks, and we'll accompany the new feature with a guide on our blog.
