invoice reminder and thank you emails
Hi. I can't see any feature in FreeAgent that will let me easily send invoice reminders (and thank you notes when payment is received). I used to use Blinksale, which made this process pretty easy, but since moving to FreeAgent, this is one thing that I miss!
Are there any plans to implement this in the future?

Inappropriate?Hi Tom
We'll definitely be adding this functionality in the coming months but we don't have a time scale for exactly when this will be right now. -
Inappropriate?i also look forward to seeing this implemented
-
Inappropriate? We are currently undergoing a review of invoices in general, and late payment reminders are definitely part of this.
We should have some more news soon. -
Inappropriate? Will you also be exploring the option of adding interest according to the Commercial Debts Act? This would be a [nice] feature.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry to be a pain but is there any news on this enhancement as it is becoming more relevant during the current economic climate?
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Hi Emz,
We're currently working on improving user permissions and access controls.
Once that's been released we'll be tackling late payment reminders. I'll refrain from giving an exact release date but we are looking to address this in the near future.
Sorry for having to make you wait.
I’m wishing there were more hours in the day
-
Inappropriate?Another vote for followup emails and payment received emails from me!
I’m just annoyed to need to chase people for payment!
-
Inappropriate? Is there any more news on this? Chasing (and thanking) clients for payment is quite an important topic at the moment.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Tom,
No more news but we're going to start work on this, once the next release is out, which is going to be next week.
I know we've said this before, but hopefully it's not going to be too long now.

Thanks for the feedback, Roan. -
Inappropriate?Should we be getting excited about next week's release?
Yes, you are correct, I need to get a life!
I’m lovin' FreeAgent
-
Well, we get excited about every release. Next week you're getting multi-language invoicing and estimates (more useful for our European users I guess) and login with OpenID. Not sure if either of those excite you? -
Inappropriate?Multilingual features will add to your USP. Invoice reminders and thank yous are standard features these days. Sounds like you have some prioritisation issues in your development team. The majority of UK companies will not need multilingual invoicing. Standard features first, USPs second in my humble opinion. Great product though. Please continue developing!
I’m a little disappointed
-
Inappropriate?Hi Al,
Sorry you're disappointed. As I'm sure you're aware prioritising new features is a balance between things that open up new markets for us (we're a business after all) and those that make our existing users' lives easier.
In this instance, multi-language invoicing was actually relatively quick and simple to do, and it has the opportunity to open up FreeAgent to a different set of users, so it was decided that we could slip it in ahead of invoice reminders.
We absolutely understand how important invoice reminders are to people, which is why we're working on them next, but technically they are significantly more challenging to get right.
Anyway, you shouldn't have long to wait, so hopefully we can win back your confidence. -
Inappropriate?Got to say, I'm also fairly surprised at the prioritisation in this case.
It has to be said that it is possible to broaden your appeal to prospective customers whilst at the same time providing new functionality which will be useful for most of your existing customers.
For example, one of the main things that puts people off that I talk to Freeagent about is the lack of a) stock control and b) invoice line item category tracking (so you can see how much/many of a certain product/service you have sold in a given period.
That would really please your existing customers plus remove a fairly substantial barrier for prospects.
Having said all that, Freeagent is definitely working well for me, better than any other solution I've tried. You're doing well, but there's always room for constructive feedback :)
Matthew
I’m ok
-
Inappropriate?Hey guys
You can't please everyone all of the time, but I get your points too, in this difficult financial climate. We as part of the FA community are going along for the ride with Ed, Roan, Olly and co and I'm sure they appreciate all our comments and feedback.
I'm still loving FreeAgent and so are my clients
I’m chilled about it all
-
Inappropriate?I switched to Freeagent from Freshbooks 1 year ago and the thing I miss most is invoice reminders and thank you emails. However, the other benefits far outweigh this, I know it's coming and I am not going anywhere so keep up the good work.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all the feedback. We really do appreciate constructive feedback, and while we do have our own roadmap, and reasons for prioritising new features, we do take on board everything you say.
On that note, we've been discussing invoice emails today, and have come up with some great ideas that we're looking to get started on very soon. Stay tuned.

Inappropriate? This would be awesome! I just went to look for a reminder feature today as some of my clients needed a gentle nudge and was mildly disappointed it wasn't there (particularly because I could have sworn it was!).
-
Inappropriate?Another vote for this feature as I have just had to chase a outstanding invoice.
I’m looking forward to the new features
-
Inappropriate?I was thinking about this last night on the way home. Couple of feature requests because two of my clients are eejits and need this kind of encouragement:
* Automatic application of late fees (statutory regulations allow for £40 if < £1,000, £70 for £1,000 - < £10,000 and £100 for £10,000+, but that's discretionary so being able to customise would be essential).
* Automatic application of interest at x% above BoE base rate (up to 8%, again discretionary).
Chances are I'd like to set late fees and interest globally to match our standard terms of business, but I'd only like to enable automatic enforcement for particular clients.
I’m angry (with the clients in question, not y'all!)
-
Inappropriate?Hello everybody,
So this feature is coming along nicely, and we're just about ready to let people start beta testing it on our testing server.
Would everybody who has expressed an interest in beta testing please email me at: roan@freeagentcentral.com and I can give you the log in details.
Please, only get in touch if you are willing and able to give constructive feedback though. If you're just nosey then you'll have to wait until it's being released properly. Which won't actually be that long anyway.
Cheers!

Inappropriate?Hey
I have signed up to the trial for FreeAgent and a number of other providers. I have it narrowed down to two which is really frustrating as I really like the user interface of FA, however I have a number of clients I am chasing payments from and this was the push for me to move from spreadsheets to finding a decent accounts program. I was disappointed that FA did not have this feature. Hopefully from reading the above it soon will!
Using the software from a long term point of view, it's a bit disappointing that it has taken over 5 months to implement it.
That said, having spent the last couple of weeks demoing most of the competition, FA definitely stands up as one of the best, so well done there. 17 days trial left....

I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Hi Ben
Juggling feature requests is always tricky, and we do get a lot of requests. This particular feature has been one of the most popular we've had but it only made it to the top of our road map a month or so ago.
As Roan says above we'll be opening it up for beta testing this week so it won't be long (around 3 weeks) before we release it into production. We're really pleased with our approach to the problem and we hope you will be too!

Inappropriate?Hi All
I too was a bit frustrated about not being able to send statements/reminders so have been simply resending the invoices with an Overdue subject line etc.
This has actually proved to be very effective in getting paid and eliminating the usual "please send a copy of the invoice" - it's actually more effective than the old days of sending statement. However, it's a real pain to have to copy and paste text from our old reminder templates into the emails in FA and it also relies on me logging who has been sent reminders and final reminders.
One option would be to allow the creation of email templates that can be used to resend the invoices. I'm sure this would be resolved when the enhancement talked about is introduced but it would still be a really nice feature to be able to create email templates. Any thoughts?
I also need the ability to add more than one email address for a contact as some clients need invoices sent to more than one recipient and I have to do this by resending the invoice to the second recipient.
On another note, one of the key reasons for me moving to FA was the Timepost add-on. It worked perfectly initially but then stopped updating and now failed competely and it's clear that the authors aren't interested in helping to resolve what has become a widespread problem with it. I know the FA guys are in no way responsible for third-party add-ons and were acting in good faith when providing a link to Timepost from their website (which thankfully has now been removed) but it would be great if FA could produce their own version of this. Alternatively, is there an API available that would allow me to develop one? I would dearly like to be able to offer this free to all those who have been left in the lurch by Colovo.
Thanks in advance for any responses
Iain
I’m still very impressed with FreeAgent
-
Inappropriate?Hi Iain,
I think a lot of your frustrations should be eased in the next release as you'll be able to send invoice reminders and set up default email templates for New Invoices, reminders and thank you emails.
You'll also be able to add an extra email address to contacts: we've called it a Billing Email and use this in the email templates.
Regarding the Time Tracker, it is a real shame that Timepost didn't receive the proper support that customers needed. We do have an API and another user has built a free Time Tracking widget for the Mac:
http://interblah.net/freeagent-widget
I'm not aware of anything else for the PC but the API makes this entirely possible. Check out the API documentation:
http://www.freeagentcentral.com/devel...
Let me know if you plan to do anything. -
When''s the next release coming? :) -
Should be 2-3 weeks. It's been a big update so the release has taken a bit longer than normal. -
Inappropriate?Hi Roan
Maybe slightly off topic from the original post, but as we're talking about time tracking, I was wondering if there any chance you could integrate with Tickspot?
Because Tickspot is a desktop program (or you can have a widget if you want) that floats above all my other work I don't forget it! Widget's are so easy to forget about (or maybe that's just me!) Seeing the time tick away also helps keep me on track. Is also works on Mac and PC too, so it solves that issue too. www.tickspot.com/widgets/
I know Tickspot integrates with Freshbooks, and will export to Quickbooks. Any chance of you having a chat with the guys over there about adding the great Free Agent Central!
Cheers
Matt

Inappropriate? Is there a way to track the emails sent on the invoice page? Maybe a quick link to the active emails invoices! For instance, I clicked the Reminder emails (To be sent on 01/17/2010 (then every 2 days)) after the due date. How do I know that this email was sent? I don't want to look like a dunce for sending a repeat email!
-
Hi Norman
We do track the emails we send out but at the present time there is not interface with which to view these. We do plan on adding this feature but I can't give you a date as yet.
In the mean time you can check the 'Email a copy to Sender' box on the reminder template which will send you (assuming you're the sender) a copy of each email we send out.
