is it possible to create recurring bills?
I'd like to set up all my recurring bills such as rent, mobile phone, internet services (basecamp, fac). It doesn't seem possible to do this currently. Or, am I missing something? If it doesn't do this then I'd really like to see this feature implemented.

Inappropriate?Hi Melanie,
You're right -- at the moment we don't support recurring bills but this is definitely something we'll be adding in the future.

Any ideas on when this is likely to be implemented? -
Hi Melanie,
We can't say for certain I'm afraid, but I would say it's likely in the first quarter of 2009. -
Inappropriate?Another vote for this. I have being looking for the exact same feature.

Inappropriate?Just to let everyone know that this feature will go into tonight's release.

Inappropriate?Hi Roan, it doesn't seem to work :(
I've changed our relevant existing bills to recurring but the system is not generating a new open or overdue bill.
I wondered if the new bill wouldn't appear until it's due date but one is 1st August and even that is not showing.
Is it because the bills I have adjusted were already paid and locked? (and if this is the case why does it allow you to select recurring for them) ie does the feature only work if you create a new bill from scratch?
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Hi Samantha
FreeAgent currently only generates recurring bills once a day. So, tomorrow morning it will generate duplicates of all the bills which are set to recur tomorrow. This will explain why your bill hasn't yet recurred. -
Inappropriate?Hi Olly, I'm still having some problems with recurring bills not recurring.
I created a bill as recurring, then marked it as paid (via uploading a bank statement) on the same day. According to your explanation, because it was same day, it was before the system had created the next recurrence. The bill has not recurred, even though it was created weeks ago. Maybe the system that's supposed to create the recurrence ignores paid bills?
(Ironically, the bill in question is my FAC subscription!)
I’m sad

Hi Sam,
I can see you have 2 'Monthly' recurring bills and these are definitely set up correctly -- they are just not ready to recur until the end of the month and the end of next month respectively. If you select the 'recurring' filter on the Bills page, you should see the 'Next recurs on' date against each item in the list.

Inappropriate?Hi Olly,
Maybe I'm misunderstanding how recurring bills are displayed. I have a monthly recurring bill entered for 31 July. It does indeed say "next recurs 31 Aug 09". However that's in less than a week, and I'd expect the August bill to appear in (e.g.) the Bills section of the Overview page - but the only one that appears anywhere is the July one. Will the August bill only appear after the date it's actually due?
My use case is to see what payments are due in the coming month, so I can ensure cash flow is available to pay them. If the above is a correct description of how recurring bills work, it seems I can't do that. It's possibly a mild abuse of the Bills functionality to use a Bill to represent a card payment which will be paid immediately. Is there a better way to do this?
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Hi Sam
Yes, the new bill will only appear on 31st August.
Bills are generally for services/products which you buy but don't pay for straight away. I wouldn't recommend creating a bill for the FreeAgent subscription since you can simply explain the uploaded bank transaction which will appear in your statement each month.
We are planning on building 'cashflow forecasting' tools into FreeAgent, although this is a little while off right now. -
Okay, looks like I was using this in the wrong way. Thanks for explaining!
