It'd be great to be able to forward bill emails to Freeagent
I want to be able to email Freeagent my bills and have it create draft bills for me to add the detail to, rather like those clever paying in machines at the bank which scan the cheque and present you the details to check. This would save uploading and faff.

Inappropriate?I'm not sure I understand your scenario here...can you outline a realworld example?
I’m not understanding

Inappropriate?A contractor emails me a bill, attached as a PDF. I want to be able to forward that email to Freeagent. Freeagent could then recognise the email address on the original email, and attach it to the appropriate contact, add the attachment and create a draft bill for me to complete.
I’m blue sky imagineering

Inappropriate?Ah, I see...nomenclature clash - I don't think of stuff like that as 'bills'...ok, I get what you mean.
I think this could be useful...
Mind you, what you're asking for sounds like there could be a lot of potential complexity to code (not that they haven't done 'complex code' already :-) E.g. emails don't match (invoice/bill came through a basecamp site, for instance)...
Slight tweak on your idea (or maybe a default if the email can't be looked up) - if they built a 'holding pen' for bills - basically a list of incoming emailed docs (they already have the thumbnail processing) with thumbnails and the incoming date and email...you could pick from a drop down which projects to rebill to etc? -
Inappropriate?Simon, Guy,
We're planning to have an attachments dropbox (a unique email address for your account for you to forward copies of things) and a new Filing Cabinet - (like your holding pen, Guy) which is where all your attachments will be accessible and you can build expenses, bills or whatever out of them.
Step two will be to allow you to enter some text at the top of the email so FreeAgent can create the actual items for you, like
Bill 27 Oct 09 Travel 272.50
or something like that.
Does that sound about right?

Ed -- any movement on this? The specific scenario I am thinking of is when I buy something online and get an emailed receipt/invoice I could forward this email to an address@FAC. It would then be in a "holding area" ready for me to assign to a transaction that I subsequently explain to FAC. In other words, this would greatly improve the current workflow where I, for example, print a receipt as a PDF and then upload this PDF as an attachment to the transaction. -
Michael, I'm still really keen to see this in FreeAgent, but it's not yet floated to the top of our priorities. Rest assured we certainly understand the advantages. -
Inappropriate?Ed,
Sounds good - if you (or any one else reading this) would care to, you should have a look at HeapCRM to see how messages in emails can be forwarded on to become something useful, with auto association. (i.e. you could auto associate the original sender address in the email I forward so that it gets attached to the right record set.)
Bugs me that 37Signals' BaseCamp won't/can't even go as far as their other HighRise product in this regard. _Anyway_ have a look at HeapCRM (and their new product Torch) to see how it should be done:

When you've read the page in the link , go back up - you've 4 more about how to use its email integration in a menu across the top.

I’m hoping you get it right...
