quotation functionallity
It would be very cool if you could use FreeAgent to build and send quotations for projects as well as just invoices... cashboard does this quite well. any chance this might get added in a future build?

@djwhisky, @MarkF,
We're hearing you loud and clear. I think we'll be working incrementally towards where you want to get to, so watch this space as we bring this out...

It certainly will. Here's how it might work.
This week we're introducing the ability to manage 'Tasks' - you already use them to categorise timeslips probably.
Next we're going to allow you to set Task estimates (or budgets, if you would rather think of them that way). The Project budget will then become that part of the overall budget which isn't contained in tasks.
You'll be able to create an Estimate/Quotation which is just like an invoice but which also includes Tasks (priced at the project rate) and of course the usual flat-rate items.
You can then track progress against budget and turn the Estimate into an Invoice when the work is done. You'll also need to be able to associate actual expense outlay against Estimate expenses.
More thinking required, but does that fit the bill approximately?

Hi there, any idea when this functionality will be implemented? -
Melanie, we're hoping to introduce estimates into FreeAgent by the end of March -
Inappropriate? That definitely sounds like it'll do what I'm hoping for! cheers Ed.
Another thing which would be handy for me would be the ability to track/mark billable items that differ between an invoice and its parent quote.
A mechanism for flagging these up would help with those "But this is 50% more than we agreed!" / "Yes but the project has doubled in scope!" conversations that I enjoy with my clients from time to time.
This might get too complex but perhaps one could arrange things so that if the tracked hours/tasks for a project went above the quoted cost by a certain amount (say 20%), FreeAgent could prompt you to send a requote/update to the client.
anyway keep up the good work chief...
I’m excited

Inappropriate? Will we be able to combine a number of quotes into a single invoice? With a lot of my clients I'll quote on a number of separate changes for things on their websites (£20 here, £50 there) and then just do one itemised invoice at the end of the month... I don't really want to go down the route of having a separate invoice for each item...

Inappropriate?BUMP! (As forums would normally say)
The ability to handle the entire client life-cycle from quote->invoice->payment would really make this an even more exceptional tool.
-
Inappropriate? This would be a handy feature! I'd put the receipt/acknowledgments ahead of it though.

Inappropriate?Hmm i've just been looking at cashboard as well, I like that it has basecamp integration. Please implement this now! :)
I’m sad because i want basecamp integration

Inappropriate?Could I please make a significantly loud plea for the functionality to be BOTH (as in choosing at the time) Estimate or Quotation.
These are two different things, and they need to be identified separately. The workflow ought to be:
1) Produce and send an estimate
1a) Be able to resend with alterations
2) Convert the (final) estimate to a quote, or generate a quote based on that estimate
3) Brief pause (while client produces a PO based on the quote)
3) Convert the quote to an invoice, or generate the invoice based on the agreed quote, referencing the PO.
You could offer a shortcut from Estimate to Invoice for less structured operations of course, but many, many businesses will not raise a PO on an estimate. They want a nailed quote first.
Philip
I’m very confident that I'm pointing out the bleedin' obvious and it's taken care of...

Inappropriate? Thanks for the feedback Philip, we'll be sure to take it on board.
I’m excited about this new feature

Inappropriate? It is great to see that you've introduced the Estimate/Quotations and I've just tried it out for the first time. This is my feedback:
1. In order to use the built in Email to client functionality of Freeagent, I would need to be able to upload and attach my Terms and Conditions PDF to the Quote document.
2. Once the Estimate has been approved and I want to convert it into an invoice, I want the option to be able to 'include all uninvoiced estimates' all in one item. Because when I've had a quote agreed, I then go on to invoice a number of part-payments (percentages) throughout the project and so the separate items I quoted for don't get listed each time.
At the moment I can't really convert an estimate to invoice, or if I did, I'd have to delete all the line items which is WAY too much work :S
One other detail which comes up here (I'm sure I've requested this elsewhere, but just to give you a little nudge!), is the part-payment process, which it would be so helpful to have built into Freeagent.
Thanks for all your hardwork on the frequently released feature additions! -
Inappropriate?Hi Emliy,
Thanks for the feedback.
1. We actually started work attachment functionality in the first release of Estimates but chose not to release it. Basically we'd rather take the time to do things right and we've got some really good ideas about how we're going to handle attachments and documents, across the app, in the near future. You shouldn't have too long to wait.
2. I'll have a chat with the guys and see how easy this would be to implement.
Thanks for all your feedback. I'm confident we'll be able to address your points in the not-too-distant future.
I’m confident
