Hi Dan,
We currently only store a single address for a company and it's this address which appears on the top of your invoices. As such, you'll want to enter your office address in the Company Details section. To add the registered company address to the bottom of an invoice, you can enter the address in the Comment field when you create or edit an invoice. Let me know if this works for you.
We'll have a chat at FreeAgent Central about adding the facility to store both registered and office addresses in the future.
Cheers, Olly

Inappropriate?Dan - many of our users use letterheaded paper if they need headers, logo arrangements and footers which are not supported by our current invoice layout.
A slight pain I know to have to pre-print stationery, but if you do want a proper footer that might be the way to go for now.
-
Inappropriate?Printing on pre-printed letter head is not a good solution if you want to make use of the email option which FreeAgent does so neatly.
BTW... I'm definitely loving the product (aside from a few glitchlets). -
Inappropriate?I have been told that it is now a legal requirement to show the registered office address on invoices. Can anyone confirm if this is the case.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Yes - see below.
A company must display its name:
* at its registered office and at the place where it keeps its company records for inspection. From 1 October 2008 this requirement will not apply to a dormant company if it has at all times since its incorporation been dormant i.e. it has “no significant accounting transactions” during a financial year or entries in the company's accounting records. Please refer to our Dormant Companies’ guidance at www.companieshouse.gov.uk;
* at any other place at which it carries on business. From 1 October 2008 this requirement will not apply if the location is used primarily for living accommodation, for example, if it is the director’s home;
* on all its business correspondence and documentation (in hard copy, electronic or any other form), including:
- the company's business letters and order forms;
- bills of exchange, promissory notes, endorsements, cheques and orders for money or goods purporting to be signed by, or on behalf of, the company;
- bills of parcels, invoices , receipts and letters of credit; and
- its websites.
Please refer to The Companies (Trading Disclosure) Regulations 2008 (Statutory Instrument 2008/495). -
Inappropriate?Thanks Stuart. FreeAgent doesn't do this so it would appear that if trading address is not the same as registered office my invoices are not compliant! Can anyone from Free Agent comment on any plans to help with this.
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?Hi Rich
We'll have a chat about how best to accomodate this in FreeAgent... -
Thanks Olly -
Inappropriate?I'll add my voice to those who think it'd be good to have this facility added. Any updates?
-
Inappropriate?I'm not quite sure how the statement Stuart posted over a year ago is relevant; it states about the requirements for display of the company name.
Invoices *must* contain your company name and number if you are a Ltd company, and they *must* contain an address to which legal documents can be sent however I can't find anywhere which states that this must be the registered office.
FWIW, I use my registered office address on my invoices but there is nothing wrong with using your trading address either as far as I can see:
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/...
See the section "Limited companies". -
Inappropriate?But Luke, we're VAT registered. Scroll down a bit. I *think* the registered address must be on a VAT invoice. I'm prepared to be wrong, but reading the very page you link to it says the invoice must include "your business' name, address and VAT registration number", which I can only assume must be the registered office?
-
Inappropriate?Your business address and registered address aren't the same IMO. If it meant registered address, it would say that.
Its clearer from the horses mouth:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/managing/c...
"[A VAT invoice must show] the seller's name or trading name, and address"
Seeing as you don't have to be a limited company to be VAT registered, it would make no sense for VAT invoicing rules to stipulate that the invoice includes your registered address. Your trading address should be fine.
Disclaimer: I am not an accountant or a lawyer, but I do run my own VAT-registered Ltd company. The above is my interpretation of what are (IMO) clear rules.
One other (albeit less authoritative) source:
http://link4business.info/2008/08/bus...
Note that it states that invoices only require your business address, which may or may not be your registered address. It does however make a good point that any official company letterhead must state your registered office address somewhere. -
Inappropriate?Good point Luke. Any accountants or legal bods around here that can confirm whether or not a trading address is fine on an invoice?
-
Inappropriate?I'd still like both, because in my case the trading address is in France half the time, and I always get "oh, we thought you were an English company...?" type queries if the French address is the only address on the invoice. We ARE! We just have a France office and it issued that invoice. ;-)
Though I appreciate we're probably an edge case. -
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
I've just checked Luke's reference to the HMRC website (thanks Luke) and as an accountant I would agree with the suggestion that a trading address is fine on a VAT invoice. It reads to me that they'd prefer your trading address over your registered office address.
It is possible to put your registered office address into the "Additional Information" box on your invoices so that you can give both addresses to your clients, but I appreciate this is a hassle.
You do also have the option to print invoices on letterheaded paper (click Advanced Options when you create the new invoice).
I can confirm that adding the registered address is on our list of planned new features so please do bear with us!
Kind regards,
Emily
