are there any plans to create a time tracking widget for projects in Yahoo Widgets or OSx Dashboard?

There are no plans for us to do this ourselves. However, we do have plans to release a FreeAgent API which will allow other developers out there to write such widgets for us :-)
We don't have a firm date for when this will be released, but it's certainly in the pipeline.

Inappropriate?I've gone ahead and done this, and described it here: http://interblah.net/freeagent-widget
Hope people find it useful! -
Hi James,
Looks great!
One thing though:
Can you please provide some instructions about how to use it?
I think this is a neat little application, thnx! -
Inappropriate? It's meant to be super-simple, but I can always add clearer instructions to the page. Are you having trouble with anything specific?
-
Hi James,
Thnx for the quick reply ;)
I've downloaded the .zip and unpacked it. Then I see two directories:
- __MACOSX
- Freeagent.wdgt
Since I don't have a Mac, I went into the second directory. Started the main.html (in Firefox) which gives me the error: "calling: https://.freeagentcentral.com/projects".
So I think my main issue is: where can I fill in my FreeAgent details? -

James' widget is Mac-only I'm afraid -
Inappropriate?Ah, of course - apologies, but it's a widget for the Mac's Dashboard only. That said, it's open source and so if anyone enterprising wanted to use it as inspiration or the basis of a Windows widget, they certainly can.
Sorry that this couldn't help you though. I've updated the page on interblah.net to make this a bit clearer. -
Hi James,
No worries mate,
it's great people like you help the community huge steps forward! ;) -
Thanks for this James, it is very much appreciated, and a nice job done.
This replicates the functionality of the widget I've been using for a long time with Cashboard for non-corporate work, and has been on my wishlist for 'someone other' to take on unasked since I started using FreeAgent.

Inappropriate?Just wanted to get some new attention for a start/stop time tracking feature.
How do people at FA think about a simple start/stop timer (either as a widget, or simply as an online part of FA)? Most of the online invoicing apps do have a start/stop time tracking feature, for example:
- etc etc
Since I'm the worst time sheet administrator on this planet, such a feature is very important for me. To be honest, not having a start/stop time tracker in FA is a real show stopper for me, and I'm thinking about switching to Harvest.
btw
I've had e-mail contact with a guy willing to create a widget for windows/PC, but there's nothing yet.
I’m sad...

I’m sadder than sad...

Inappropriate?I'll add my voice to the requests for a new time tracker. I have been logging in and out and in and out of FreeAgent like mad wee thing this week.

Inappropriate? What platforms are you (newoceans, Heather) using? It could be that an application or tool already exists. Let us know and we'll see if we can help, unless you are specifically requesting a FreeAgent-built solution?
I’m clarifying
-
Inappropriate?I'm on Vista. Any solution (Free Agent-built or not) would do.
I have one client that has me working on four different projects - it's taking quite a bit of discipline to log in and track my times efficiently. -
Inappropriate?I'm on Windows XP. Any solution would be nice ;)
In the past I've had contact with a guy who was willing to build a simple tracker, but I haven't heard of him since quite a few months now... -
Inappropriate?I've been asking for this for AGES.
When working from home, I use an old desktop timer called Responsive TimeLogger, then manually enter my timesheet in FA at the end of each day. It's a pain, especially if I've worked on several different projects that day.
A Windows-compatible widget would make things so much easier. Practically all of FA's competitors have one -- Harvest, Cashboard, you name it, they all have nice little integrated widgets. A time tracker is becoming less of a "nice to have" and more a "need to have" when you're marketing to freelancers, IMO.
I've been a FreeAgent customer for more than a year. Thorough time tracking has been discussed many times, but we're nowhere closer to a solution than we were a year ago (and I mean a REAL solution, not an unreliable & poorly-supported third-party widget like Timepost that you have to pay extra for). I like FA, but their competitors are starting to look pretty good too, since time tracking is a big issue for me.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi everyone
Thanks for all your feedback -- we are listening and we do understand your frustration.
We're going to have a long chat about this and look into providing a solution which will hopefully satisfy everyone.
Thanks for bearing with us

Inappropriate?Good to see people pushing for a time-tracker. I'll add my voice too.
Up till now I've been using dotProject to manage my projects and as a time-logging tool. I think the easiest implimentation would be a simple start-stop button on the new timesheet page.
Look forward to seeing this implemented!
Loving freeagent so far so congrats on the hard work.

Inappropriate? The effort is much appreciated, Olly.
Still a very, very happy FreeAgent user regardless!
I’m happy
-
Definitely, there's a lot of love for that. There is a long discussion about it elsewhere on Get Satisfaction and we're looking to make some progress on that front in the near future. -
Inappropriate?I use toggl.com for time-tracking.
I'd love to see support for integrating this with FreeAgent, preferably automatically & transparently!
R.
I’m hopeful...
-
Inappropriate?Well, this is surprising. Just about all the apps out there have at least a web-based time-tracking widget/popup. I'm coming from SugarCRM with JCRMTime and FreeAgent looks like its a giant leap for me, but without a way to clock in and out on projects/tasks, this is a step down as well.
I most definitely will be looking at writing an Android app to track time (or paying someone to do it for me) because by the looks of it the API can handle it; the app will have to keep track of the time itself and then just post the hours when clocking out. But it shouldn't be very hard for you guys to build this stopwatch style tracking it in the web UI, right?
I’m undecided
