VAT before registration
I have not yet regustered for VAT but I do intend to do so. Can I track VAT in the meantime.

Yes you can.
You can record VAT paid on the expenses you incur, and when you've applied for VAT registration you can add VAT to the invoices you send.
While you're awaiting registration you're not supposed to show the VAT separately, so FreeAgent works out the invoice item prices accordingly. Once you've registered fully, it will automatically display it as a proper VAT invoice.
