Why can't I Convert an Estimate to a Project?
It's great that estimates can easily be converted to invoices, however they most likely need to be a project before they are invoiced. It would be great if there was button that transfered the client and budget information into a new project for me. Am I missing something or is it simply not available at this time?

Inappropriate?Hi Shea
We hear where you're coming from but we have approached this the other way round -- if you want an estimate associated with a project you have to select the project either when you create or when you edit an estimate.
Hopefully creating a project is a quick process, so it should be fairly straightforward to do this prior to creating the estimate.
You can also create the project only when you're ready to invoice and assign it to the estimate at that time if you like, but you'll have to make the estimate Draft first to be able to edit it.
Hopefully we can streamline this more in the future but it will probably take a while before we can look into it. -
Inappropriate?I'd like to be able to do something like this. I don't want to create a project for an estimate as at this point it isn't yet (a project). Once the client agrees then it becomes a project.
What would be useful is if there was a drop down to 'add new project' in the same way that I can either select an existing contact or 'add a new contact' in the 'new estimates' screen.
I’m unsure

Also agree that adding a new project on the fly would be a real time saver, I always start writing an invoice and realise i don't have the right project setup, as we generally bill before we start work on a project... -
Inappropriate?Hi
Any update on this as one of my clients really wants this functionality and I also agree with Melanie that creating a project at this early stage in the current market situation is not ideal.
I’m curious and obsessed with this site!

Inappropriate? The first thing we do when a client expresses interest is send an estimate. Isn't this what everyone does? Even the tour at http://www.freeagentcentral.com/tour/... endorses this way of doing things.
Without getting the estimate approved, there is no project and we don't know the project budget. Without approval, we are also unsure of the project start/end dates because they depend on when the client approves. Weird that we have to create a project first without knowing either the project budget or the project start/end dates.
Could you please confirm if the Project Budget (on create/edit projects screen) is the "accrued" project expense while the expenses on the Expenses screen are the "actual" expenses? Another way of asking the same question - is the Project Budget (on create/edit projects screen) ignored during bank reconciliation?
Having said that, thanks for an otherwise excellent product. It grows on me and my team each day we use it.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Hi RS,
You don't have to create a project first. You can create an Estimate then once it becomes approved you create the project and retrospectively associate the estimate with the project. This links the two which follows on when the estimate is converted into an invoice.
Regarding the Project Budget, yes this is ignored during bank reconciliation. It's really there as a guide for comparing your estimated time with the actual timeslips, but we're not doing much in the way of profitability metrics yet.
Does that help?
