XLS File Export
Im having problem opening my exported XLS file. Im using Mac Numbers not Excel, but it should work.... but Im getting the following message "The document was created with an unsupported version of Excel". I've tried several times downloading the file just incase it was corrupted but same issue.

Inappropriate?Hi there
The problem here is that our export file is currently saved in Excel 95 format which doesn't appear to be supported by Apple Numbers -- they only support Excel 97 and above.
We'll look into whether we can support the Excel 97 format in the future but in the meantime you'll need a copy of Excel (or possibly Open Office) to view the file, or to convert it into 97 format. -
Inappropriate?I’m also having the problem with both Numbers and Google Docs - in fact everything I try to open the file with.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hi Josh
We're aware of the issue with Google Docs, sorry about that. The export works fine in Excel but we're using an older XLS format which probably explains the problems here.
We're aware that there are improvements which we need to make in this regard, and it's something we plan on improving in the not-too-distant future. -
Inappropriate? One workaround - OpenOffice seems to be able to import Excel 95 format files. To use the spreadsheets exported from FreeAgent with anything else you can open the in OpenOffice and the re-save them again in an easier-to-deal-with format. It’s a bit of a pain, but better than nothing.
OpenOffice is free and open source and can be downloaded from http://www.OpenOffice.org
I’m a little better

or (for a bare-bones implementation) http://www.andykhan.com/jexcelapi/
It looks to me like freeagent runs on Rails, but even so, if you’re using JRuby integrating one of these should be pretty easy -
Inappropriate?Hi everyone
We've given the FreeAgent Excel export a bit of a spring clean, so hopefully it will now work for you in Excel, Open Office, Apple Numbers as well as Google Docs.
Let me know how you get on.
Olly
I’m excited
