A comment on the question "refund = negative expense BUT not working" in FreeAgent Central:
Michael,
So we did implement 'Expense Refunds' in the sense that if you personally are refunded for something it serves to reduce the amount the company owes you.
But we don't have 'Money Received from User > Expense Reimbursement Refund'.
We tend to view the Out-of-pocket Expense Account as a running account rather than packaging up as formal Expense Claims. So you might just leave the negative amount in place until you incurred some more expenses?
If not, drop me line with the details of the Money Paid to User transaction (to ed@freeagentcentral.com) and we can tweak the sign from here.
(We do still plan to make things more flexible here, I appreciate this isn't all it could be) – Ed Molyneux, on March 02, 2010 11:56
A comment on the question "vat interval change" in FreeAgent Central:
Steve,
Sorry to have kept you waiting on this - there have been a fair few things which have had to jump the queue. It's still very much on our list, and I can assure you we _will_ get round to making this more flexible. – Ed Molyneux, on March 01, 2010 09:50
A comment on the idea "It'd be great to be able to forward bill emails to Freeagent" in FreeAgent Central:
Michael, I'm still really keen to see this in FreeAgent, but it's not yet floated to the top of our priorities. Rest assured we certainly understand the advantages. – Ed Molyneux, on February 25, 2010 13:40
Ed Molyneux replied on February 24, 2010 10:25 to the question "Paypal statement importing USD as GBP" in FreeAgent Central:
Colin,
You'll have found that there is limited support for USD transactions in FreeAgent paypal uploads, mainly because we use it ourselves for our subscription payments. So you're seeing some of that, but unfortunately it isn't supporting your refunds etc.
The real answer - for both of us - is foreign-currency bank accounts. But until then, if we could maybe see a sample of your paypal CSV file we could slightly extend our code to make your data work too...

Just to confirm we're now on the case with that! – Ed Molyneux, on February 19, 2010 12:20

Robin - thanks for that. We'll definitely be working on adding those kinds of options in the future and it really helps to understand what you need. – Ed Molyneux, on January 31, 2010 21:45

A comment on the idea "Feature request : Categorise individual invoice items to generate nice report" in FreeAgent Central:
Nah, we're not annoyed. Always useful to understand what people want to achieve, but I would say our goal is to keep FreeAgent totally 'non-accountancy' for this kind of thing. So we'd have income categories or tags rather than any of this customize-your-chart-of-accounts nonsense! – Ed Molyneux, on January 17, 2010 23:49
A comment on the idea "Improvement to Tax Timeline view (paid/overdue)" in FreeAgent Central:
Hey Charles, sorry you're frustrated by apparent lack of progress on this. Emily wasn't with us when that previous thread was live, to be fair, and the massive list of ideas and improvements that you among others have helped us to build isn't fully transparent to everyone here.
Suffice it to say the more voices we hear requesting a certain feature, the closer forward it brings itself in our collective consciousness! – Ed Molyneux, on January 12, 2010 14:18

Chris,
Thanks loads for taking the time to write up your very comprehensive feedback! It really helps us understand which parts of FreeAgent are hard to understand or not quite flexible enough. We'll certainly add the issues you raise to our todo list.
I do take your point about being able to address user requests in a timely manner. As it happens we're bringing on board another full-time developer tomorrow to bring the dev team up to 4 - so you should see a noticeable improvement in the speed at which things happen!
